How about if you start your rankings with all the state champions from last year, all 7, it's only 2 more than the 5 you want. Then take out the seniors who graduated, add all the other state placers below the top seven, in alphabetical order by last name, and as the season progresses, move kids up into the top seven as they wrestle each other. It's not perfect, as a lot of the 1A and 2A schools don't wrestle many 3-6, but let's face it, we all know who the 1A and 2A studs are.
The problem with your method is the 1A and 2A studs will probably remain in the top 7 all year because as you say, they don't wrestle many 3-6A's. Having been to Salem for the last 3 years there is definitely a drop off in talent (and size) between 3-4A and 1-2A.
Nothing's perfect.

I respect and appreciate 1A/2A wrestling no question. It is a small-pool class. In general, they do not compete as well against class 3,4,5,6. There are obviously some studs in there - Webb, McNutt, Wallace, Boyd, Gordon, etc. I try to ensure I use head-to-head to rank them.

rankwrestlers.comLooks like the site compiles all the track wrestling data then allows you sort the results. I'm interested to see if they can keep up with results during the season...

The problem with rankwrestlers.com is that it only pulls from trackwrestling, and there are many tournaments that are not on tw, so those wins/losses won't be reflected in that ranking system.

If he is ranked in rankedwrestlers posthe his accomplishments, maybe it was an oversight.

Again, who I am and my qualifications are not really important. As I stated before, the anonymity reduces friends, family, and others from politicking to have their kids ranked differently.
At the end of the day, if you do not like the rankings you need to post why using the criteria detailed in the FAQ below:
"Q: What are the rankings based on?
A: Rankings are based on the following, in order of priority:
1. Head-to-head results (most recent first) 2. Common opponent results 3. National, state, and local accomplishments (ex. tournament finishes) 4. Member feedback 5. W - L
Each of the criteria above are considered in relation to the weight and division they were accomplished in. In addition, consideration is given for injuries, wins by default, and "bad days.""
