Re quest11's question about the two Patrick Henry high schools. For the two seasons 2015/16 and 2016/17, Patrick Henry-Roanoke is 6A and Patrick Henry-Ashland is 5a. Both schools were in those same classifications for the 2013/14 and 2014/15 seasons. Check out the VHSL site for the classification of all schools.
We have numerous high schools in Virginia with the same name and it can get confusing at times.

How did you decide on 1 and 2 at 138? What has Tony done over Wyland for the 1 spot. Wyland just wrestled the number 3 kid in the country to a 4-3 loss, and according to witnesses actually won that match before the ref withdrew a 2 point takedown call at Beast of the East, oh and the kids name was Shane Griffith.

Like all the rankings, it is ultimately a matter of evaluating the data I have available and making a decision. Is Wyland #1, maybe. I have seen both wrestle, and believe Amendolare is #1 at this point. They both have won a title, though Wyland and Benedictine does get out more on the national scene.
In regards to Beast, I do appreciate your evidence-based point. I would though add, the same #3 was beat the very next round, granted, via medical fft. Not sure when or how the injury occurred. In the consis - Wyland was beat in his first match by a non-seeded wrestler who was not nationally ranked. Then their is Feight, he lost to a finalist 4-2. Then won 4 matches in wrestle-backs including beating the #16 seeded wrestler.
Clay Smith only lost to the #3, 4-2.
So yeah, it is tough to decide #1, #2, and #3. It all about calculated guessing.

Why are two freshman, Wittenberg and Morales ranked over a returning state champion, Justin Phillips, a returning 3rd place state finisher, Tyress Wade, a retuning 4th place state finisher, Josh Neighbors and a state qualifier, Zak Holzapfel. Am I missing something here? I can'tfind any matches where these two freshman have beaten these guys or beaten guys that the placers and qualifier have lost to.
according to witnesses actually won that match before the ref withdrew a 2 point takedown call at Beast of the East, oh and the kids name was Shane Griffith.

I am actually a bit of a sucker for private school, but trust me when I tell you, when not not taking any individual performance in account, 6A and 5A alway beat private school and 4A down. I can deal with a Prata or Bolen, but with all things equal, the bigger pool generally brings bigger results.....happy?

I did check the VHSL's classifications page and I found both Patrick Henry schools listed under 5 and not 6.
according to witnesses actually won that match before the ref withdrew a 2 point takedown call at Beast of the East, oh and the kids name was Shane Griffith.

Thank you, Admin Not surprised, your number 1 ranking criteria in your faq section is head to head, but you never gave Victor Eccheveria credit for beating Joey Prata at the Beast last year, at least we all know why, or did that match fall under your last criteria, he had a "bad day" It's just silly that you rank a freshman with maybe 15 total HS matches over a returning kid at the same weight class that placed 3rd at states last last year. Are you following your own ranking criteria or did everybody that Corbe beat last year, and this year just have a "bad day"? Lastly, Morales, Great Bridge, is 4a, not 5a. **** Noted, adjusted, appreciated.****
Thanks for sharing your opinion. We can agree to disagree. I do believe Prata based on historical results is the #1.
Since you brought up my criteria, common opponent is one. Cody Trybus just beat Echeverria at Mount Mat Madness. Prata beat Trybus twice at Beast. Echeverria is a very good wrestler, and maybe with a higher ceiling, but Prata is #1 right now.

Schmitt from Brookville defeated Connor Wallace at the I 64 Duals in October & Sebastian Phillips at the Turner Ashby tournament on Dec. 18th & 19th. He is also going down to 126 as he is listed as #1 seed for the LCA invitational beginning tomorrow. If he is not placed in the 126 rankings on here, he should be above Phillips at 132 & higher in the overall rankings.

at 106 Holzapfel is a senior . You have him listed as a freshman. The conference 8 matches includes Battlefield, Stonewall Jackson and Osbourn whcih all have athletes on your list either ranked or watch list at 106. So that weight should get some clarity real soon. Conference 8 is brutal for so many of the kids.
Last year conference 8 produced 3 state qualifiers at 106 and looks like it could do so again this year at both (106 & 113) this year.

I am open to suggestions to research. Who are you suggesting?

I certainly am willing to consider the points made, but it doesn't mean I am willing to make the suggested changes. In the case of Helm, it was warranted, in other cases, I do not think it is.

Cody Amos just won a powerade championship beating the 11th ranked wrestler in the country, Noah Bushman placed 4th losing two 1 point matches to nationally ranked kids, Marquis Cobbs placed 8th at powerade. All results that should be considered.

All results that should be considered. Outside of any h2h at 195, I would move Aiello to 1, Allen to 2, slot Bushman at 3 and drop Gayle to 4. Again this is not including any h2h for this year. I would not have a problem keeping Gayle at 3rd and just moving Bushman to 4 either. Bushman took 4th at Powerade but he was the #2 seed so his losses to nationally ranked guys can only carry so much weight. Had he beaten at least 1 then maybe it's a different story, but all that shows is he can lose close to nationally ranked guys.
