Stafford County's first wrestling club. The kids are taught the fundamentals of wrestling and compete in the Northern Virginia Wrestling Federation and the Capital Area Wrestling League (CAWL). Year after year this club has turned out most of the area's most successful wrestlers. The club has an all-volunteer staff of great coaches, a safe friendly atmosphere, and an agenda to make your wrestlers as successful as their desire will take them.
The club is divided into 3 levels of experience/progress and kids get individual attention from the many coaches on staff. I highly recommend the Highlanders for those early development years when a wrestler needs coaching and encouragement as opposed to the 'win at any cost' mentality pushed onto our children during their pre-high school years.

My boys started at Powerhouse and came over to the Stafford Highlanders 3 years ago. It was the best thing for them as learning good technique and having positive role models was imperative. Stafford Highlanders has alumni from all of the areas local High Schools as well as College wrestlers return to the room to help out throughout the season.
The Stafford Highlanders also are the only youth club in the area that participates in the Greco / Freestyle season. Some of the kids have won State in Greco & Freestyle and went on to place in the South East Regional tournament in Duluth GA.
The influence of World Team Coach, Dale Oliver is paying dividends in the Greco / Freestyle season. Other coaching staff at the Highlanders include College Graduates who wrestled at Iowa, Michigan State, Virginia Tech as well as the Air Force Academy.
Our family feels very blessed to have found the Stafford Highlanders.

We have 3 boys all of whom have wrestled with the Highlanders over the past 8 years. They have taken each of our boys and developed them, at each boy's own pace, through the NVWF, on to the CAWL, and off to high school where 2 have been, or are currently, very successful. They have learned great technique, good sportsmanship, great work ethic, and the value of volunteering.
The all volunteer staff is fantastic, year in, year out. Great guys who love the sport and give the kids their all! Many of these coaches are men my older sons look to for advice and counsel in wrestling and in life.
Only Greco/FS program around. Amazing how much the other styles help the kids in Folkstyle especially as they advance.
I would highly recommend the Highlanders to any youth wrestler who is interested in top notch developmental wrestling training with an eye to picking up all the tools necessary to rise to the top in a great sport!

Just reviewed the State finals brackets. Interesting to see how many former Highlanders placed. In all fairness to other clubs, I have listed the kid's affiliation with other clubs that I knew of. Seems like the majority of successful Stafford county wrestlers have been Highlanders at one time or another.
106 Bryce Gentry (4th) Tommy Aloi (2nd) also wrestled for Hylton
126 Mikey Hayes (3rd) also Powerhouse Dylan Thompson (State Qualifier) 132 Tony Neis (5th) also Smith Trained 138 Gary Woods (State Qualifier and 3x placer) 145 Sean Murphy (7th) also Powerhouse 170 Zach Martinez (4th) 180 David Reck (1st) also Bandits 195 Logan Jackson (1st) Mark Garrity (3rd)
Private School (VIS)
152 Tyler Coronett (2nd) Saint Christophers 220 Andrew Lutterlow (1st) Bishop Ireton
A hugh thanks to the other clubs Powerhouse, Hylton, Smith Trained, and Bandits who helped get these wrestlers ready for their respective high school teams.
I'm a hugh Highlander fan but if your wrestler is at another club and enjoys it, then that is the right club for him! I'm not into the club rivalry thing. Lets keep all the current kids wrestling and keep 'em coming!
